About This Blog
After winning the Beerdrinker of the Year award, I was approached by Tom Ciccateri, the 2005 winner, about writing a blog. It was something he never contemplated in his reign, but later thought it would be interesting if the world could follow the current Beerdrinker of the Year through his or her exploits. I quickly bought into the idea, and that was the genesis of this blog. My goal is to update the blog once or twice per month and document my beer travels and adventures. I will do my best to keep the blog meaningful, insightful and fun.

Cody,
Hopefully I can comment on this site…OC response: Hilde Deweer does not mention any spices/herbs for any of the 3 Rochefort beers in her book; Ben Vinken mentions, “assertive palate of fruit…a hint of herbs.” in his tasting notes; Charles Deglas states they are called, “the Trappist beer for real men.”??? and that they have a powerful spicy aroma and noteworthy bitterness; Protz does not mention corriander in Heavenly Beer; Stan’s Brew Like a Monk is the only source I have found for corriander; finally, Tess and Mark in Beer Captured give a clone recipe for the 8 with the brewey’s rule of twos: 2 malts, 2 sugars, 2 hops, 2 yeasts. These yeasts are real temperature sensitive and do produce many fruity spices notes especially when going open fermenter…SOOOO who the hell knows, ask a Monk next time you’re in Belgium. See you in Portland sometime? Prosit, Mark
