I had a desire to make my own commerce, however I didn’t have got enough of cash to do that. Thank goodness my close colleague told to take the loans. So I took the collateral loan and made real my dream.

I’ve been here for a while now, and Au Brasseur (along with La Lanterne) are regular haunts (the only two brew pubs left in town), although none of their beers are great, I do quite like their blonde and ambrée (much better than La Lanterne, however I live closer to Lanterne.)

It’s the combination of decent Alsatian food with decent beer along with a reasonable price that keeps me coming back. That and since I walk everywhere, Kehl is a bit too far for a regular hike (1.5 hours each way - and yes, I do head over just for the better beer and WAY more affordable food and drink prices.)

I recommend a Blonde with a Jarret au Munster (pork hock coated in stinky Munster cheese…)

Well, I’ve found nothing that chases a good single malt better than a good Scotch Ale. As the the Scots say, “I’ll have a wee dram and a wee heavy.” If you’re hiking, you can’t beat beer in cans. So even though I’m sure it’s not a new brew for you, I’d go with Oskar Blue’s Old Chub. Cheers!

Bill - I love Thomas Hardy’s, and it does get that same syrupy, raisiny character that intensifies as it ages. I did not know it was no longer produced! (how did I miss that…) Applejack still has a few bottles in stock so I’ll rush down and pick them up. I hope your friends appreciated you sharing such a rare & small bottle with them!

I opened a bottle of 1996 Thomas Hardy’s Old Ale last month and served it some of my brewer friends. I had purchased it in 1998 when I was living in the UK. It was amazing! A real testament to what time and yeast can do. It’s a shame that beer is no longer being produced. I’ve still got a few later bottles, being saved for a special event someday. Cheers!
